Many people who suffer from chronic pain have histories of trauma and abuse. Myofascial Release is wonderful for helping relieve the physical pain, and often helps you get in touch with how these traumatic experiences are still affecting your body. Much of the time people are able to release the emotional component of their pain with out needing additional mental health care. As myofascial release therapists, we are not psychologists or counselors. Our skills in dealing with emotion lie in helping you feel how your emotions and belief systems affect your body, and then being present with you as you feel what you need to do with that awareness. Many times this is enough.
Sometimes, however, you may want or need the extra support of a trained psychologist, who specializes in trauma and is also experienced in myofascial release. Sometimes, what you feel in your myofascial release sessions can sometimes feel “too big” to deal with on your own. She can guide you in psychological processing that allows you to take what you learn from your body in your myofascial release sessions and frame it in a way that helps you to move forward in the most productive way.
